Among the almost 1,500 other items were a Yamaha baby grand piano. That Mercury used to write many of Queen’s songs, which fetched £1.7 million. The hammer price total from the auction hit £39.9 million well ahead of the estimate.

Knight Frank estate agents invited bids of more than £30 million. The London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea subsequently revealed it had been on their radar for Garden Lodge since 2024.
