In a lighter note ahead of their World Darts Championship showdown, Jonny Clayton jokingly demanded free kebabs from Gerwyn Price’s fish and chip shop in Markham, South Wales, if he were to win.
A Friendship Forged Through Competition
The duo, both Welshmen, have enjoyed great success together including a World Cup win. Everyone knows the camaraderie they share, Clayton said, “Gerwyn is a great mate… We are best buddies. Jonny Clayton and he have a strong friendship.”
THE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
The two friends played each other in a highly anticipated match on 29 December 2024 at London’s Alexandra Palace. Price won 4-2 and progressed to the quarter-finals. He came out firing, winning the opening two sets with averages well over 100. Jonny Clayton replied superbly, drawing level at 2-2 with checkouts of 121 and 141. But Price pulled it back, winning the last two sets to secure victory.
Combining Commerce with Competition
Following his victory over Clayton, Price expressed confidence in his performance, stating, “I know that if I play like I did in the first two sets for the rest of the tournament, then I’m going to be tough to beat.” He is set to face Chris Dobey in the quarter-finals, with aspirations of securing his second World Championship title. Jonny Clayton put up a good fight, but Price’s performance this tournament has been stellar.
Looking Ahead
After beating Clayton, Price said, “I do know if I play like I did in the first two sets for the rest of the tournament, then I’m going to be hard to beat.” He will meet Chris Dobey in the last eight, with plans to win his second title at the World Championship. Jonny Clayton showed great sportsmanship despite his loss.
