“Our hearts are broken forever”: a woman dies in a car crash after being chased by police

Kathleen Kirby’s family has paid homage to her as the one who “held everyone together” after her death in a car crash that halted a police chase in Wigan that resulted in the arrest of a suspect.

The woman’s loved ones say their “hearts have been broken forever” after she was murdered in a car crash after a police chase.

At about 2.30 p.m. on Monday, police were pursuing a vehicle that “failed to stop” for officials, and that vehicle crashed on Bolton Road in Wigan, killing a woman named Kathleen Kirby.

It is thought that Ms. Kirby was fatally injured after the vehicle being pursued collided with another vehicle.

She suffered life-threatening injuries and was sent to the hospital immediately, but she passed away soon after arrival.

Police have confirmed the arrest of a guy and his subsequent detention.

The Manchester Evening News said that Kathleen’s loved ones described her as someone “who took everyone under her wing.”

They cried out, “Today we lost our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, partner, aunt, and best friend. Our hearts are broken forever.” She was like a mother figure to everyone she met, and she saw nothing but the best in people.Kathleen was always there for us and was the glue that kept us together; she had an incredible zest for life. We promise to always honor her memory and try our best to make her proud.

We will remember you with the deepest love as a mother, grandmother, partner, and sister.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct and the Professional Standards Branch of the Greater Manchester Police have been informed of the event.

After a car accident at Platt Bridge, Wigan, a woman tragically lost her life, according to GMP.

“At approximately 2:30 p.m. today (Monday, June 26, 2023) officers pursued a car after receiving information that the driver had refused to pull over for police. A short while later, a woman in her 60s was injured in an accident with another vehicle that had nothing to do with the police pursuit.

The woman was rushed to the hospital, but despite the best efforts of the medical professionals, she passed away a short time later from her injuries. A man has been detained by police and is being held in connection with the event.

Councilman Danny Fletcher of Ashton-in-Makerfield South released the following statement after hearing the dreadful news: “As a councilman for Ashton-in-Makerfield, I was deeply grieved to hear of the devastating tragedy in our town yesterday afternoon and the sad demise of well loved local citizen Kathleen. Please know that Kathleen’s wonderful family is in my prayers.

I don’t know the details, so I can’t say much, but I do appreciate the emergency services’ prompt and competent response. The quick thinking and willingness to aid of Ashton citizens and businesses should also be commended.

While my immediate focus is on Kathleen’s loved ones, I pledge to work with the appropriate authorities to determine what happened and assist bring those guilty to justice.

Superintendent Ian Jones of the Greater Manchester Police’s Wigan area sent his condolences to the victim’s loved ones yesterday, saying, “Our sincere thoughts and condolences go to the family and friends of the woman that has sadly passed away following the incident earlier today.”

We appreciate the public’s concern over events of this kind and have referred them to the GMP’s Professional Standards Branch and the Independent Office for Police Conduct as is standard operating practice.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience during the road closure,” the police said. “Investigations like this often result in road closures, which can cause significant disruption.”
