She has lately acknowledged that the journey has not been simple for her or Ruby after she learned new language to accept her daughter.

She told NBC News that her “sensitivity allows her to draw on real-world problems and dangers that are facing our society today,” which is why her movies elicit such “real” reactions from audiences.
