Stephen Mulhern’s private life: his home, his soap romance, and his Holly Willoughby kiss

Stephen Mulhern has become one of the best-loved presenters on telly in recent years.

Having started out on kids TV back in the 1990’s, the magician-turned-broadcaster has made a name for himself on primetime TV, with hosting roles on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Catchphrase, In For a Penny and B ritain’s Got More Talent.

However, the incredibly-talented star has kept his personal life incredibly secret over the years.

The presenter does post the odd update on social media where we get a glimpse into his life off the screen, but for the most part, he keeps his cards close to his chest when he’s not in front of the camera.

Here, we take a look inside the life of Stephen Mulhern from his luxury home to a kiss with a fairy famous friend of his.

Fabulous house

We’ve seen Stephen have a peek around the homes and lives of other celebrities in the past through the likes of Big Star’s Little Star.

But there wasn’t too much given away about his own situation until a couple of years ago.

In 2019, we were shown around his London home thanks to a tour on Instagram, and it is simply stunning.

The TV star proved that he spent his earnings well as he showed off his living room’s massive flatscreen TV and pristine furniture.

His kitchen features a huge marble island which is surrounded by an array of luxury leather chairs.

The 44-year-old is a multi-home owner, with properties sprawling across the UK with pads in Benfleet Essex, Leicester, and Barnet, as well as his luxurious home in London.

EastEnders romance

Stephen’s love life has been kept extremely secret over the years.

The last time he opened up about his love life was in 2018 – where he said he hadn’t been on a date in four years!

However, there was one major link between him and another TV celebrity long before that.

Back in 2008, Stephen was linked to EastEnders star Emma Barton, who plays Honey Mitchell on the BBC soap.

The pair were said to have grown close while starring in pantomime production of Snow White in Birmingham at the time, but neither star ever confirmed the rumours although they were spotted out together for a duration of three years.

When their relationship ended, without ever admitting that they were an item, Stephen said his time with Emma came to a ‘natural end’.

Holly Willoughby kiss

As mentioned, Stephen is known across the UK (and globally!) for his work on family entertainment shows like Britain’s Got More Talent, Catchphrase and In For A Penny – but it was kids TV where he got his first big break.

Anyone who had kids or grew up in the early 00s will remember Holly & Stephen’s Saturday Showdown, previously called Ministry of Mayhem, which ran between 2004 and 2006 and saw Stephen present alongside Holly Willoughby.

An old clip of the show went viral earlier this year on social media, which saw the pair share a smooch.

In the video, Stephen, now 43, gives Holly, now 39, a gift.

He explains: “Here’s the deal, if you open it you must wear it for the whole show.”

Agreeing to the terms, Holly rips open the present to find a green Christmas hat with mistletoe attached to it.

A gleeful Holly announced: “Hurray for me! I can kiss all of the boys in the world all of the time.”

She then sings: “Tis the season to kiss Holly fa la la la la” to the tune of Deck the Halls, but when her fellow presenter kisses her on the lips she objected: “No! Stephen, you don’t count!”

He argues: “What do you mean I don’t count? Whoever you are under the mistletoe with you must kiss,” kissing her again before declaring: “Happy Christmas!”

Joking in response: “Don’t wear my lips out, I am going to be kissing Anthony from Blue soon.”

But Stephen kisses her again, and then two more times later in the show – making a total of five smooches over the course of the Christmas special.
