The Jam’s legendary bassist, so Bruce Foxton’s recent years have changed both personally and professionally. His reconciliations included one with his former partner in crime Paul Weller, but one with drummer Rick Buckler did not, and ended in acrimony. Moreover, Foxton has had health problems that have affected his musical career.
Make up with Paul Weller
Foxton had little contact with Weller after The Jam broke up in 1982. But sometime in the mid-2000s, they reconnected, sparking a rekindled friendship. This reconciliation culminated in Weller’s participation on Foxton’s 2012 solo album, “Back in the Room.” Bruce Foxton and Weller’s renewed friendship delighted fans, who had hoped to see a reunion for years.
A falling out with Rick Buckler
Foxton, on the other hand, was at odds with drummer Rick Buckler. The pair had previously worked together in the tribute band From The Jam. Buckler did leave the group soon after Foxton and Weller reconciled their friendship. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a falling-out with Rick, but he’d probably tell you I did,” Foxton said. This phrasing suggests that there are diverging views on the estrangement between Bruce and Buckler.
Of course there were health issues and touring.
In August 2024, Bruce Foxton announced that he was taking a break from performing for health reasons. He had a medical procedure and said he needed time to recover. Foxton said he was sorry to postpone his work with From The Jam but needed to put his health first. He expressed hope about returning for a 45th-anniversary tour of “Setting Sons.”
Current Endeavors
Despite that, Foxton is still keen on music. Bruce Foxton is staying active with fans and will continue to tour as his health allows. Indeed his efforts with From The Jam show his desire to continue to carry forward The Jam’s legacy.
