This is the oldest casino in the country, if not the world, which used to house a gentlemen’s club that played host to celebrities and dignitaries from around the world. The casino has attracted attention in recent times when the famous poker player Phil Ivey was found to use a technique called ‘edge-sorting’ to win £7.7 million while playing Baccarat. After the casino refused to pay his winnings, the case went to court, where five justices upheld the decision. It was deemed that this technique was illegitimate.
