What you should know about nicotine pouches

These days, nicotine pouches are an increasingly popular way to get a hit of nicotine without having to inhale tobacco. Nicotine pouches are actually very similar to snus in the way they are used. Essentially, they’re an easy, on-the-go, discreet option for when you need a nicotine hit.

How to use nicotine pouches

Just like snus, they come in small pouches which are placed under the top lip. This is where the nicotine is absorbed into the bloodstream. Nicotine pouches come in a range of different sizes including mini and regular. This has to do with the different sizes and can impact where you place these under your lip. Usually, users place them to one side, whatever is comfortable. It can even be flattened against the lower gum and used there too.

Once the pouch has been comfortably placed in position, you may find that there is a slight tingling sensation as the nicotine is absorbed. It’s also at this point that the flavours within the pouch are released as well. Depending on the pouch, the flavour and buzz can last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.

Unlike snus, nicotine pouches do not require spitting, nor do they stain the teeth as there is no tobacco product contained within. Instead, they use natural plant ingredients as well as various flavours and sweeteners.

Staying tobacco-free

Nicotine pouches, like this one have nicotine derived from tobacco leaves, but simply do not contain any tobacco. However, some nicotine pouches use synthetic or completely tobacco-free nicotine. Whichever way the pouch is created, the nicotine hit and buzz will be the same.

Considerations when using nicotine pouches

If this is your first time using a nicotine pouch, then it is advisable not to keep it under the lip for the full length of time. Keeping the pouch there for up to 15 minutes is advisable so that you don’t feel it burning. Of course, this is up to you.

In a similar vein, we recommend that you pick a low-nicotine strength to start with. Many nicotine pouch brands have a bottom range of 2 mg of nicotine per pouch. This will give newer users a softer start.

Nicotine strengths vary from medium strengths such as 4 mg and 8 mg right up to strong, including 11 mg and 18 mg. For these much stronger nicotine hits, we recommend them for long-term users who are used to that level of nicotine.

Most nicotine pouches come slightly moist which helps to release the flavour more effectively. However, if you want to start the process, it is recommended that you gently chew on the pouch. This adds more moisture to the pouch and gently loosens the material within the pouch itself. You should not be sucking on them however.

When you’ve finished with your pouch, you must dispose of it correctly. Even though these pouches contain plant-based materials, they are not recyclable. Instead, these must go into general waste. However, usually the can the pouches come in is recyclable.

Nicotine pouch flavours

As well as a variety of strengths, nicotine pouches come in a myriad of different flavours. The most common are mints, such as peppermint or spearmint. But, there is a range of fruity flavours such as watermelon, citrus, dragonfruit, mixed berry and so many more. It’s also possible to opt for more traditional flavours such as cinnamon or bergamot, or even go for unusual options such as coffee.

Depending on your preferred nicotine pouch brand, you can choose from an ever-growing number of flavours. It’s worth taking the time to look around and see exactly where your preferences lie.
