Truth prevails Raise voice

The band Almost Famous has announced that they will be relocating to the former Libertine Pub location in Withington

Libertine, the Withington pub from the people who brought you Cottonopolis in the NQ and Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats, has had a rocky start to life. After a full renovation of the former District Bank building in August 2022, an all-day restaurant, bar, and music venue debuted there, but it closed for good during the holidays. The explanation given was the increase in energy prices.

Now it seems like Manchester burger joint Almost Famous, who are known for their signature sassy social media posts, will be taking over the Wilmslow Road location.

Earlier today (April 29), they proclaimed on Instagram, “ALMOST FAMOUS WITHINGTON.”

“At long last, we’re expanding our Almost Famous family with the inauguration of a brand new restaurant in the southside ‘burbs.

This seems like a real super sherbet dibdab ray of sunlight after the trash and hardship of the last few years.

We’ve taken over the most gorgeous listed building (a former bank) at the very top of the high st and are decorating it with our customary brand of mayhem and mischief—including a 10-foot gorilla.

This area of Manchester, nestled between the city proper and Dids, has always felt like home to me. South Manchester brings up fond memories (kebabs from Abdul’s or Monsoon, the up-and-down ride on the 42, the Didsbury dozen, cheap curry and beer in Rusholme, Parklife at Platt Fields, Big Hands, and so on), and it’s exciting to be heading there.

Let’s get back to having fun together; we’ll be open by the end of May; contact us for opening-party invites in the meantime.

Almost Famous already has outposts in the Great Northern, the Northern Quarter’s Edge Street, Liverpool, and Leeds, therefore this will be their fifth location. Ten years after it first opened, in July 2022, the ‘famous hangout’ on High Street finally shuttered. Almost Famous also has concession stands selling its signature burgers in Lane7 bowling centers in Bristol, Newcastle, and Leicester.

There will be room for 120 covers for private dining and parties at Almost Famous Withington, where they will serve their famous burgers, cocktails, and beers. By partnering with Deliveroo, they can now serve customers in Didsbury, Fallowfield, Burnage, and Chorlton for takeout orders.
